I Went to War

portrait of Ash Woolson from 100 Faces of War Experience

I Went to War is a manuscript in progress that tells stories of Americans who have been to Iraq and Afghanistan. All of the subjects participated in artist Matt Mitchell’s 100 Faces of War Experience portrait project. James Heflin’s words in I Went to War are accompanied by Matt Mitchell’s portraits of the subjects.

About the project, actor and artist Leonard Nimoy has written, “…I Went to War is terribly moving. …This book speaks so eloquently to a desire to elevate humanity through the arts.”
